On the surface, it may seem like getting a job begins and ends with a good resume.  Thankfully, however, that isn’t always the case. In fact, there are several job opportunities just waiting to be had, if you arm yourself with the right information and use the tools at your disposal effectively.

So how do you get agencies and companies to take a chance on you when you don’t have a resume? By following the strategies we’ve outlined below.

    1. Establish a Strong Online Presence in Your Niche

By using online platforms that showcase your skills and experience, you’re demonstrating to potential employers that you’re knowledgeable in your craft.

There are a variety of different platforms that put job-seekers in the sights of potential employers and will afford you the opportunity to put all of your skills, hands-on experience and in some cases, even certifications, on display. Platforms like LinkedIn cater to diverse professions while forums like Toptal and Clearvoice cater to more specific crowds.

    1. Identify Jobs That Don’t Require Resumes

Many companies and employment agencies no longer limit their job applications to people who use resumes. In fact, the percentage of companies that now use online application forms is steadily increasing.  What this means is that instead of sending a resume, you will manually enter your qualifications into a form that will then be emailed to the hiring manager upon completion.

When filling out online application forms, ensure that it:

    • Is completely filled out
    • Provides the company with an in-depth view of how grounded and proficient you are in your field
    • Highlights key skills set and experience relevant to that job
    1. Send Letters and Emails

Let companies that are hiring know what you have to offer by sending out emails and hand-written letters. Prior to sending this kind of email or letter, however, put careful thought and consideration into the companies you choose, and why.  In addition to talking about your skills and experience, you should also be able to explain why you’re the best fit for the job you’re applying for.

How do you do this?

Read up on the company – and the position – and then talk about how your experience aligns with what they are seeking.
