Here’s How to Knock Your Second Interview Out of the Park!

Make no mistake about it, getting asked to come for a second interview is good news. This means that you are seriously being considered for the role based on the success of your first interview. The initial meeting went by without a hitch, but what can you expect in your second session? What exactly wasn’t covered in the first interview that warrants a second one? In this post, we answer these questions and then some, all to help you ace your second interview.

  1. Prepare for a New Interviewer/s

Follow-up interviews normally involve different people than those you talked to in round one. The company may bring in a panel of people you’ll most likely work with, including senior executives, managers, or supervisors. Either way, expect to meet new faces. Don’t assume that the second interview is just a continuation of the first one and that you’ll still be talking to the interviewer you got along with so well.

  1. Be Ready to Go Into Specifics

In the second interviewer, the company will want to know in detail if you are who you say you are on your resume. You can expect to talk at length about your most significant work experience, your skills, and what makes you a unique candidate.

You also want to take this opportunity to get to know the company more. Ask questions about the company culture and how the company thinks you can best contribute to their growth, should you get hired.

  1. You Get a Second Chance

If you feel that you weren’t able to completely answer some questions in your first interview, go ahead and tie those loose ends up in round 2. Whether you feel that you may have left some details out, or you ran out of time before you could get your whole point across, take the second interview as an opportunity to make your clarifications.

  1. Expect the Money Talk

You can also expect to discuss compensation and benefits in the second interview. Although there’s no way of knowing whether this will happen or not—the discussion might even pop up in the first interview—be prepared for it anyway. Be sure to let the interviewer/panel bring it up first.

  1. Ask Questions

Second interviews usually give you more time to ask questions than you did in the first interview. Use this opportunity to ask additional questions about the company, its employees, and the position itself. Write down your questions ahead of the second interview so you can come prepared.
